Y’all like humanisations, right? :3
So I kinda approve of this with all of my being…
Since you’re a critic and an artist…mind if you spare a few words on this piece of mine? :)
P.S. This was made with oil pastels.
Ooo traditional mediums…a land I rarely venture into…xD
Let’s see…I can’t really talk all that much on use of the medium since I personally have never used pastels. However, the really fun thing you can do with pastels is blend them together and get some nice smooth looking transitions from different values. I’d suggest giving that a go, can really help add some subtle complexity to things like the ocean and sky where they normally would just be flat values if you use just the colors of the pastels themeselves xD
The composition is nice, very vertical, with the lighter arc of sand on the beach around Fluttershy and (who I’m assuming is) your OC is a good compliment to the setting sun above it, and the patches of purple on the upper edges of the canvas help bring some cool colors into the sky so that it doesn’t clash with the cool-neutral tone of the rest of the composition.
Overall my suggestions would be to perhaps give your characters, the focal point of the piece, a bit more space, make em a bit larger so you can add some more intimate details. Taking into consideration the rule of thirds and offsetting them a bit from the center of the canvas could add some additional visual interest, and bringing them up from the bottom of the canvas and having them overlap the ocean a bit could help increase the perception of depth.

Something like that…^_^;
Overall I dig it! Lookin forward to seeing more!
My huge video is finally here!
Why My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is so good and why everyone should give it a chance.
I was finally able to get this video finished, it’s something I’ve been meaning to get done since the end of November, I hope you all enjoy!
Also, if you can tell by the title, this is mainly meant for people who haven’t seen the show yet or are confused about why people are watching My Little Pony, so if you know someone like that, please show them this video. I want this to spread like wildfire! Well, maybe not like wildfire… but I would like this to be my most viewed video if possible.
So please reblog this video!
This is the big one, my longest and most in depth video about ponies.
This is the video that brought me where I am today in this community. If you haven’t seen it already, I’d say give it a try. It’s a bit dated and I still find things wrong with it, but overall, it was well-received when I released it, and surprisingly it hit the nightly roundup on EQD twice in December when I uploaded it.
It’s the first video of mine to reach 100,000. While that may not seem much to other people, like to the ever-growing popular musicians, the animators or even Saberspark… it’s still a lot.
My place in this community is… odd. If we go by the different categories of content creators, I’m not a musician, artist, animator, writer, or even an entertainer as Saberspark says that he, ACRacebest and Solrac fit into.
I’m just… me.
I mean, I do review the episodes when they come out, as far as I’m aware, I’m one of the only people who make video reviews regularly besides the EverFreeRadio staff, but mine are really short and to the point.
I suppose I’m more of a thinker of the community than anything else, and I give advice when I can or when I’m confident that the advice is good advice. Though, sometimes I just don’t know.
Ya know… it’s kind of appropriate that this video reached that number this month, because 1 year ago this month, I started watching My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and I joined Tumblr (which is later this month, but still).
So what do I do now?
1. Well, for starters, finish up the documentary that Saber and I have been working on. Hopefully that will be done by mid-October at the latest. For all of you that we interviewed at BroNYCon, thank you again, it was a pleasure talking to all of you and I look forward to seeing the others at Everfree Northwest.
2. Continue my episode reviews, that’s something I’ll never stop until the show stops.
3. Start making other videos and restart Pony Discussions. I definitely want to get Pony Discussions started again, but I only want to do them on my own time and whenever the other two people I have involved are ready. I decided to make it into a livestream thing like Brony Breakdown, just not as scheduled. I’ll be uploading them to my channel though, so not to worry if you miss one. The two people I have involved are individuals in the community that are also seen as “thinkers” some of the time, but it’s not what they’re most known for, but I’ll keep that a secret until I start Pony Discussions up again.
4. Continue to grow and learn with this fandom. I know that fandoms like this are temporary in someone’s life, in some rare cases they aren’t, but most of the time they are. I want to stick around as long as possible. Ponies have caused me a lot of happiness and I don’t want to let that go. I haven’t been this… obsessed over something since Pokemon more than a decade ago or my fascination with cetaceans that started 8 years ago. I don’t want ponies to be the thing that destroys my fascination with biology and zoology, but I don’t think I have to worry about that since I’m starting my schooling for my bachelor’s soon, and that will take up my time and my interest by at least half.
In this community, I’ve met friends, best friends, people I love, people I’m not too fond of, people I outright hate, people I’m indifferent towards, people I admire, people I want to be, people that annoy me, people that make me laugh, people that are modest, people that are uptight, and many many many more.
Our fandom isn’t perfect, but we are full of very diverse and interesting people.
There’s something very unorthodox about our fandom and that’s part of what Saber and I have been trying to figure out.
There’s not much else I think I have to say at the moment, so I’ll leave you with this quote from Joe Stevens when he was going on a really long talk about the show and the fandom and the convention on Sunday night when BroNYCon ended:
“I think everyone, EVERYone, especially the haters, especially ourselves I think, has been waiting for this whole thing to implode. To just fall apart because the message is not real. The message is real because we have survived all that’s gone, and because we are right here, right now.. and… I’m just gonna keep talking because I can’t stop about it!”
~Joe Stevens
VideoWhat is that message Joe’s talking about? Is it love and tolerance? No… you all probably know my opinion on that by now. Well… what’s the name of the show?
Friendship Is Magic
That’s it.
And I’m with Joe in that I can’t stop talking about it. That’s why I started making videos in the first place.
My name is Paleo. Thank you for reading/listening/watching. Thank you.
Love,
~PaleoP.S.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ACTUALLY DOING THAT!
If you guys haven’t watch this, you really should, this is the video that inspired My Little Critiques
